Of all the things that a nation, or even an individual, need to survive a crisis, none is perhaps as necessary as hope. That feeling that somehow one can survive, win even, though the odds are stacked against them and the outlook is grim. Throughout its history, the United States has been blessed, often when most needed, with hope from a strange place. In 1778 it came when the French joined the American Revolution, and in 1980, it was brought home with Olympic Gold by the men's hockey team. But in the late 1930s, during the midst of the Great Depression, it came in the form of a horse named Seabiscuit. Americans have always loved animals, and those living prior to World War II were still close enough to their pioneer roots to feel a special affection for horses. After all, it was these noble animals that had carried soldiers and pulled plows and milk wagons alike. A horse was more than just a pet; it was a partner in the fight for survival. Just as many Americans had known special, unforgettable individuals, so they had known special horses. Seabiscuit was one of these, and even the animal's name spoke to the heart of those struggling.

It seems to me that the writer of this book Seabiscuit: The Life of the Most Famous Horse in American History has a great deal of affection and appreciation for this horse. The author told this brief and concise story in an enthusiastic manner. The book described the rivalry between the East and West coasts owners and trainers, and how Seabiscuit was not felt to be good enough to raise horses such as War Admiral. I was surprised to read that Seabiscuit had run 35 races has a two-year-old and that he also raced for eight years. If you interested in learning about Seabiscuit in a short read this book is for you.

Good "introduction" of Seabiscuit & Family. Was an hour reading of highlights surrounding immediate characters and events. Would further my reading based on this introduction.
It was ok.
great product
Not bad; sometimes a bit disjointed and slow.
Great story of a wonderful horse. Small in stature, but strong in speed. He never did stop.
I enjoyed this book very much. It is a sat read and holds your attention. It does quote a lot from the Laura Hillenbrand book about Seabiscuit though. Recommended.
Was supposed to be brand new, but due to poor packaging it came all bent up. A mighty thin paperback book for a whopping $9.99! Not easy to inform you of how short it is since there's no page numbers in it. Since it's so short I just did a rough count of the pages quick - 31 pages (that's including front as 1 page & back as 2nd page, etc.). Very Short for a whopping $9.99!
